All 12 pieces in this collection are drawn from solo lute settings of dance music from a variety of sources, and have been arranged according to common stylistic performance practices of the period. At their most simple, these practices are nothing more than a melody instrument doubling the lute melody, examples of which are found in every piece. More elaborate forms include melodic ornamentation and melodic divisions.
