The three movements are Little March • Rondo • Humoresque
Clifford Benson wrote these three pieces at various times in his busy career as a world-class accompanist, though they rarely were ever truly finished. Though he was composing these three amongst many others from 1956 onwards, he was still improving them at the recording session of his complete piano works after he had been diagnosed with an inoperable brain cancer.
As my accompanist and colleague at many master classes worldwide, he was often called upon to play piano pieces which I had arranged for flute. Although I heard and requested him to play these three pieces many times at our concerts, I never thought to arrange an original Benson piece for flutes.
Clifford would have been amused.
